Under the bonnet

We sell outcomes, not acronyms. But here are the acronyms, for whoever checks.

Most clients never need to read this page. It's for the person they ask to check us out: the developer, the IT manager, the software partner. Everything on it has been built, run or rescued in production, not read about.

Business software since 1997 .NET since its beta One SaaS platform built and run for 13 years AI in production, not in a slide deck

Skills and technologies

Five things we know inside out.

For each one: what we know, where it has been used for real, and why it should matter to you.

Legacy .NET and Microsoft systems

Fluent in the version your system was written in.

VB6VB.NETC#ASP.NETWeb services and SOAPXML and XSLTSQL ServerVisual SourceSafeModern .NET
  • What we knowMicrosoft .NET since its beta, before version 1.0 shipped in 2002, and the VB6 that came before it. Among the first developers to qualify as a Microsoft Certified Professional Developer on .NET 4, with the exams sat while they were still in beta.
  • Where it's been usedBusiness systems, client portals and web services that have been running for more than 10 years. Escalated faults in the critical systems of a national motoring organisation, found and fixed on Azure and on-premises.
  • Why it mattersWhen we take over a system that's been running for 15 years, we're not learning its technology from scratch. We wrote code in those versions when they were new, so we know what was normal then, what was a shortcut, and what's safe to change.

Practical AI

AI that does a job, not a demo.

OpenAI and ChatGPT APIDeepSeek APICustom GPTs and agentsDocument and data extractionAI use policy
  • What we knowConnecting business systems to large language models from OpenAI and DeepSeek through their APIs, building custom GPTs and agents that do one job well for a team, and writing the rules for how staff use AI safely.
  • Where it's been usedAn AI pipeline that reads around a million web pages a day and turns unstructured text into structured, searchable intelligence for paying users. An AI acceptable use policy for a trust of 20 schools. And our own products: AdPolish and PolicyGuardian score job adverts and school policies in seconds.
  • Why it mattersMost firms don't need an AI strategy. They need one task that takes hours to take minutes, with their data kept safe and a person still checking the result. We'll tell you where AI earns its keep, and where a spreadsheet would do.

Cloud platforms and data

Built to run for years, not to launch once.

Microsoft AzureAWS.NET and C#SQL ServerMongoDBElasticsearchAzure Service BusREST APIsCI/CD and automated testing
  • What we knowCloud platforms on Microsoft Azure and AWS, API-led and distributed architecture, and databases that stay quick at hundreds of millions of records.
  • Where it's been usedA SaaS intelligence platform built from nothing in 2012 and run for 13 years: 60,000 users a month, more than 500 million database records and a search index of over a terabyte. A global API platform for a car rental group in more than 30 countries, which brought in around $1m of new revenue in its first year. An enterprise payments platform for a national motoring organisation.
  • Why it mattersLaunching software is the easy part. Keeping it fast, secure and affordable in year ten is the real job, and it's one most suppliers have never had to do.

Industrial IoT and connected devices

From the kit in the field to the report on your desk.

Modbus TCPPLCsMQTTNode-REDSCADA and HMI platformsIndustrial 4G routersEdge computingStore and forwardHigh-volume SQL
  • What we knowGetting data off machines and devices on remote sites and into systems people can use: PLCs and controllers over Modbus TCP, MQTT messaging, 4G routers, edge devices that hold readings when the connection drops and send them when it comes back, and the SCADA layer in between.
  • Where it's been usedTelemetry and monitoring for equipment installed across sites in England, from the device on site through to high-volume SQL databases and management reports, with factory acceptance testing before kit leaves the factory.
  • Why it mattersIf you make, install or maintain equipment, the data it produces is often worth as much as the kit. We build the whole chain, so readings arrive complete, on time and ready to report on, not stuck on a device in a field.

Security, governance and leadership

Fit for the boardroom, at home in the code.

Cyber securityData protection and GDPRSupplier managementAgile and ScrumBoard reporting
  • What we knowTechnology strategy, security, data protection and leading delivery teams, from the board paper to the incident call.
  • Where it's been usedLeading teams of up to 185 people and technology portfolios of up to €13m a year. A board seat at a digital agency serving global pharmaceutical clients.
  • Why it mattersA Technology MOT or a part-time CTO is only as good as the judgement behind it. You get someone who has sat on the board and been on the incident call, and can explain both in plain English.

Qualifications

Certificates don't build software. They do show the learning never stopped.

Most of what's on this page was learned the hard way, in production. These are the bits with a certificate to show for it.

  • Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD), .NET 4, sat in beta
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
  • Zoho Developer Certification, behind our Zoho development
  • ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC)
  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM I)
